American is well known for its whiskey, a distilled beverage produced from a fermented mash of cereal grain and produced in the United States. American whiskeys made from mashes with at least 51% of their named grains include bourbon whiskey, rye whiskey, malt whiskey, Tennessee whiskey, and corn whiskey. Bourbon is the most famous of these whiskey styles, requiring at least 51% corn in the mash. Although bourbon may be made anywhere in the US, it is strongly linked with the American South in general, and Kentucky in particular.
