Chateau Cantemerle

Chateau Cantemerle

50% Cabenert Sauvignon 50%, 40% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. The vines average 30 years of age. There is a green harvest, and leaf thinning is practised, and yields are up to 55 hl/ha. A practice unique to Cantemerle is selective devatting, by which only the middle section of the cap is pressed. The Grand Vin sees about 12 months in oak, 50% new. "A very fruit-driven nose with blackberry, cedar and cassis, with superb delineation. Full-bodied on the palate with fine tannins, well-balanced with layers of toasty black fruits with sufficient acidity to lend the wine freshness and vitality. An ambitious, well-crafted wine and probably the best Cantemerle I have tasted." Neal Martin, 92-94 points.
