Cantele’s Fanòi Primitivo, made from a selection of top fruit from one of our best vineyards, is named after the traditional bonfires that would light the Puglian hills in cooler months because the wine itself is a nod to one of the grandest traditions of Puglian winemaking. The Primitivo grown on the Ionian coast, the spiritual home of Primitivo, is intensely rich in color and flavour, much richer than the lighter Salento offerings. Thanks to the setting sun of the west, the berries on these vines achieve excellent ripeness. But the proximity to the sea (literally a stone’s throw away) also provides the ventilation needed to maintain the freshness and vibrancy. The resulting wines have remarkable depth and nuance.
The grapes for this benchmark, cru-designate expression of Primitivo are sourced from one western Puglia’s top vineyards.

Having fallen in love with Puglia, Giovanni Battista Cantele and his wife Teresa Manara decided to move to Salento to establish a winery in the 1950s. The whole family is now involved in the business and carries on the legacy with the same passion and energy. The aim is to redefine Puglia’s wines and show its unique terroirs with wines of great intensity, precision and freshness.
