Penedes Wine
It is thought that the Phoenicians introduced grape vines to the region in the 6th Century BC. Today Penedes is best known for its Cava production although there are some great still wines produced here too, particularly the whites. The main three grapes in Cava production are the indigenous grapes Xarel·lo, Parrelada and Macabeo, with Chardonnay becoming a more popular component in these blends.
