Crouch Valley Pinot Noir, Sugrue South Downs
Description
The 2024 vintage was remarkably warm in Essex, compared with the rest of the country. The clay soils in the Crouch Valley are rich in mineral smectite, helping regulate water in both dry and wet spells, and building body and structure in the fruit. Ripening was long and slow, and the grapes were harvested in mid-November from Mason's Point and Crow's Lane vineyards.
Decidedly classical in style and more than a little Burgundian, this is scented with cranberry and earthy nuances, and deeply flavoured with fine-grained tannins and a long, peppery finish. Drink now, or cellar for a decade or more.

Is Sugrue England’s best sparkling wine? Obviously tastes are personal and vintages vary, but the consistently high scores and rave reviews achieved for each wine released suggest that it is certainly a contender for that title. Regardless Dermot is one of the most talented winemakers working in the UK today.
